LG Electronics Unveils 'Micro RGB Evo' LCD TV With OLED Technology

LG Electronics (066570.KS) will unveil the "LG Micro RGB Evo," a next-generation LCD TV that combines ultra-compact RGB LED backlighting with organic light-emitting diode (OLED) light source control technology. The new product is seen as overcoming the picture quality limitations of traditional LCD by incorporating know-how from LG's OLED TV business, which has maintained the world's No. 1 position for 13 consecutive years. LG Electronics is expected to further strengthen its dominance in the premium TV market with this new product.
LG Electronics announced Wednesday that it will debut the Micro RGB Evo (model MRGB95B) at CES 2026, the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, in Las Vegas on January 6. The product features a backlight source changed from conventional white to red, green and blue LEDs. The use of ultra-compact RGB LEDs as light sources maximizes color reproduction.
Precision control technology is at the core. LG Electronics applied its OLED technology, which controls self-emitting elements at the pixel level, to this product. By independently controlling RGB LEDs at the light source level, the company eliminated light bleeding and achieved clear picture quality. "We applied our world No. 1 OLED DNA to achieve innovative picture quality and color that never existed before," said Park Hyoung-sei, President of LG Electronics' MS Business Division.
The "3rd Generation Alpha 11 AI Processor" serves as the brain. It is the same chipset used in the 2026 OLED TV lineup. LG elevated performance by equipping its LCD lineup with the industry's only OLED-dedicated processor. Based on a dual AI engine, it supports "Micro Dimming Ultra" technology that precisely adjusts brightness and contrast. The "Dual Super Upscaling" function, which processes two upscaling tasks simultaneously, transforms low-resolution content into natural, sharp images.
Color accuracy has also been certified. The Micro RGB Evo obtained "Triple 100% Color Coverage" certification from global certification body Intertek. This means it meets 100% of three color standards: broadcast standard BT.2020, digital cinema standard DCI-P3, and graphics standard Adobe RGB. It provides optimized performance not only for movie viewing but also for professional photo and video editing work.
User convenience has also been enhanced. Based on the proprietary smart TV platform webOS, users can enjoy various content including games and shopping without separate devices. It provides personalized viewing experiences through LG TV's five AI features, including AI chatbot and Voice ID. In recognition of these technologies, the product received a CES Innovation Award from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).
LG Electronics plans to pursue a two-track strategy. The approach involves maintaining self-emitting OLED TVs as the top-tier model while positioning the Micro RGB Evo at the top of the LCD TV lineup. The company aims to solidify its leadership in the global premium TV market. "We will deliver a viewing experience of a different dimension to global customers," Park emphasized.
