Goyang Approves Two Urban Rail Lines to Ease Northwest Transportation Gap

Two urban rail lines will be built in the northwestern region of Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport approved and announced the second Gyeonggi Province urban rail network construction plan on Monday.

The confirmed routes are the Gajwa-Siksa Line and the Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Line. The Gajwa-Siksa Line is a 13.37-kilometer section connecting Gajwa District to Siksa District via Janghang District, with a total project cost of 411.1 billion won ($287 million). The primary purpose is to address transportation underserved areas.

The Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Line is a 6.25-kilometer route running from Daegok Station through Goyang City Hall to Siksa District. It was included as part of the Changneung District metropolitan transportation improvement measures, with a project cost of 235.3 billion won ($164 million).

"The project we have pursued to overcome the poor transportation environment in the northwestern region has been confirmed," Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said. "However, if the 'Goyang-Eunpyeong Line Ilsan Extension' project is included, we will consider revising the Daegok-Goyang City Hall-Siksa Line."

The Gyeonggi Province plan includes a total of 12 routes spanning 104.48 kilometers, with an overall project cost of 7.27 trillion won ($5.1 billion).
