Gyeonggi Province Doubles Solar Capacity at Northern Office Complex

Gyeonggi Province announced Wednesday that it has installed an additional 400-kilowatt solar power generation facility on the parking lot roof of its Northern Government Complex, nearly doubling the complex's total solar capacity to 844.4 kilowatts.
The province has been operating a 444.4-kilowatt solar facility on the Northern Complex rooftop since February last year, using self-generation and energy cooperative lease arrangements as part of its "Gyeonggi RE100" vision to achieve carbon neutrality in the public sector.
Once the newly installed facility becomes fully operational, it is expected to generate 540,200 kilowatt-hours of electricity, raising the complex's power self-sufficiency rate by 16 percent. This translates to a reduction of 229 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to planting 34,700 pine trees. The solar panels installed on the parking lot roof also provide shade, lowering vehicle interior temperatures during summer months.
The province plans to analyze the generation results and continue reviewing options for introducing additional renewable energy sources.
"Expanding solar power facilities is an important step toward realizing the Gyeonggi RE100 vision," said Kim Dae-soon, Second Vice Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province. "We will create a sustainable government complex through an eco-friendly energy transition together with provincial residents."
