Guri Traditional Market Entrance to Get Modern Redesign

The city of Guri in Gyeonggi Province is pushing ahead with plans to renovate the landmark sculpture at the entrance of Guri Traditional Market. The city secured a total budget of 133 million won for the project after being selected in the "2026 Gyeonggi Province Facility Environment Improvement Project" public competition.

Guri city plans to transform the market's first impression by applying a design that reinterprets the city's historical identity in a modern context. Indirect LED lighting will be installed to create a safe environment for nighttime visitors.

Guri Traditional Market serves as a central hub for local daily life, and the city expects the project to improve the market environment while revitalizing the surrounding commercial district.

"We will work harder to improve the living environment that citizens can feel in their daily lives," Guri Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun said. "Through smooth project execution, we will strive to establish Guri Traditional Market as a representative local hub for the community."
