Pohang Bogyeongsa Temple, Other Sites Selected for Barrier-Free Tourism Upgrades

North Gyeongsang Province announced Wednesday that three sites — two in Pohang and one in Andong — were selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's barrier-free tourism environment project for next year, securing 750 million won ($555,000) in central government funding.

The project aims to improve accessibility, mobility and safety for tourists with disabilities, elderly visitors and families with infants.

Among 30 sites selected nationwide, North Gyeongsang Province's winning locations include Bogyeongsa Temple's temple stay program and Yeongildae Beach in Pohang, as well as Wollyeonggyo Bridge in Andong.

Bogyeongsa Temple and Yeongildae Beach will be developed as a package combining coastal and mountain tourism to establish a barrier-free tourism belt along the East Sea coast.

The Wollyeonggyo Bridge area will undergo improvements to visitor pathways and creation of barrier-free viewing and rest areas, as well as maintenance of Moon Boat facilities to develop a stay-oriented tourism environment.
