SK Hynix Wins Two Top Honors at GSA Awards

SK hynix (000660.KS) swept two categories at the awards ceremony hosted by the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA). The company was highly recognized for overcoming the industry downturn early and achieving overwhelming financial results based on its high bandwidth memory (HBM) technology.
SK hynix announced on the 7th that it won both the "Best Financially Managed Semiconductor Company Award in the Over $1 Billion Annual Revenue Category" and the "Outstanding Asia-Pacific Semiconductor Company Award" at the GSA Awards 2025 held on December 4 (local time).
The GSA Awards, held annually since 1996, is recognized as the most prestigious event in the semiconductor industry. Winners are selected through comprehensive evaluation of leadership, financial performance, and industry reputation. SK hynix lifted the trophy in the financial management category for the second time since 2017 and earned its first-ever award in the Asia-Pacific company category since the company's founding.
Analysts attribute the wins to HBM technology leadership and customer-focused management. When the semiconductor industry fell into a slump in 2023, SK hynix quickly responded to artificial intelligence (AI) memory demand and laid the groundwork for earnings recovery ahead of competitors. The management philosophy of "securing unwavering technological competitiveness especially during difficult times," which SK Group Chairman Tae-won Chey has emphasized, is credited with producing these results.
SK hynix's earnings show a steep upward trajectory. Cumulative revenue for the first three quarters of this year reached 64 trillion won, with operating profit of 28 trillion won. These figures are close to surpassing last year's record-breaking full-year results of 66 trillion won in revenue and 23 trillion won in operating profit, the largest in the company's history.
Financial soundness has also improved notably. Cash and cash equivalents stood at 27.9 trillion won at the end of the third quarter, up 10.9 trillion won from the previous quarter. This exceeded total borrowings of 24.1 trillion won, shifting the company to a net cash position of approximately 4 trillion won.
SK hynix plans to accelerate production capacity expansion. In October, the company completed early opening of the clean room at its M15X fab in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, and began equipment installation. The goal is mass production of HBM in the first half of next year. The first fab at the Yongin semiconductor cluster is also scheduled for completion ahead of the original plan of May 2027.
"Based on market-leading products and differentiated technology, we will create new value with customers as a full-stack AI memory creator," said Kim Joo-sun, President of AI Infrastructure at SK hynix, who attended the ceremony.
