Samsung SDI won the Korea Technology Awards Minister's Award for 'ESS Safety Technology'

Samsung SDI (006400) won the 'Korea Technology Award' for its technology to enhance safety and reduce costs in energy storage systems (ESS).
Samsung SDI announced that it received the Minister of Industry Award at the Korea Technology Awards at the '2025 Korea Tech Festival' hosted by the Ministry of Trade and Trade, which opened on the 3rd at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Established in 1992, the Korea Technology Award is the most prestigious technology award in Korea where the Ministry of Industry and the Korea Industrial Technology Planning and Evaluation Institute (KIET) comprehensively evaluate the value of technology, technology development capabilities, and commercialization of technology for major domestic companies.
This year, Samsung SDI received an award for submitting the achievements of SBB (Samsung Battery Box), an integrated ESS solution, in the development of fire safety enhancement and cost reduction technology. It was the only battery company in Korea to be named on the award list and was recognized for its differentiated ESS safety technology competitiveness.
SBB is a product that integrates a battery and safety device in a 20 foot (ft) container. We have secured the highest level of fire safety in the industry by applying our own impregnated fire extinguishing technology (EDI) and heat spread prevention (No TP) technology to a rectangular battery form factor with excellent durability.
A Samsung SDI official said, “We have secured the best competitiveness in ESS safety technology,” and “we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the domestic ESS market based on the advantages of a durable square shape and advanced safety technology.”
