
SK Telecom (017670.KS) said on the 23rd that it is pursuing international standardization in the physical AI field, extending the digital twin technology it has accumulated in the manufacturing artificial intelligence (AI) sector into robotics. Through this standardization work, the company plans to strengthen the utility of a digital twin-based robot learning platform it is preparing to launch in the second half of the year. A digital twin refers to technology that reproduces physical objects or systems identically in virtual space.
The "Robot Data Factory (RDF) integration structure and method" proposed by SK Telecom was adopted as a new standardization work item at an International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) international meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland, from the 14th to the 22nd of this month. The core of the work item is to establish standards for systematically producing and utilizing the data needed for AI learning of intelligent robots such as humanoids. The Robot Data Factory structure is classified into five layers: service, robot model and data, infrastructure, device, and management.
Robots have a limitation of poor compatibility because data formats and interfaces differ by model and platform. In response, SK Telecom plans to set the role of each layer and the integration specifications between layers so that functions can be easily connected, replaced, and expanded even across different robots and platforms.
Previously, SK Telecom had advanced a digital twin platform in the manufacturing AI field in cooperation with SK hynix. Based on this, it is expanding into a robot learning platform that generates robot task data and uses it for AI learning. The company aims to contribute to invigorating the robot data ecosystem by cooperating with domestic and overseas robot and AI companies and research institutions.

"Going forward, we will continue to lead international standardization in the robotics field based on technological competitiveness spanning robot learning platforms and AI models."
