
WIRobotics, a global robotics company, said Monday it is launching a technology disclosure roadmap to build a development ecosystem for physical artificial intelligence (AI). The company plans to gradually release core technologies accumulated during its humanoid robot development to researchers and developers.
WIRobotics says that beyond developing robots, it needs to build an open development ecosystem in which outside researchers and developers can participate together. The aim is to create an environment where various algorithms and AI models can be researched and verified using a simulation environment before robots are launched, when actual hardware use is limited.
According to the roadmap, the company selected the simulation model of its humanoid "ALLEX" and its Simulation-to-Real verification results as the first technologies to be released. The ALLEX simulation model focuses on minimizing the gap between the actual robot and the simulation. The characteristics of the actual ALLEX, which has high back-drivability and force transparency, have been precisely modeled. Developers and researchers can conduct research on ALLEX-based control, learning, and synthetic data generation without actual hardware.
"We plan to supply an ALLEX research platform by the end of this year," said Kim Yong-jae, CEO of WIRobotics. "By releasing the ALLEX simulation model, we will enable more developers to begin ALLEX-based research before actual hardware is distributed, and we will expand a development ecosystem where research results can later be applied to real robots."
