"KartRider," a flagship intellectual property (IP) of Nexon, is being revived more than three years after its service ended in 2023.
Nexon said Wednesday that it has confirmed the official name of its development project based on the racing game IP "KartRider" as "Crazyracing KartRider," identical to the original, and has launched a website.
Nexon explained that it decided to carry over the official name to reflect its intention to continue the memories and experiences of the original "KartRider."
Reflecting users' anticipation for the new title based on the "KartRider" IP, Nexon plans to open an official webpage and regularly publish newsletters containing future development progress.
The new title is being developed based on the original's core gameplay, including its sentiment, driving feel and control feel, while at the same time introducing modern systems to provide a more comfortable play environment.
The original's lobby screen, which had become complex over its long service period, is being intuitively redesigned. The team is taking an approach that goes beyond partially modifying the existing structure to reorganizing the overall flow of the game. The client has also been changed from a 32-bit base to 64-bit and modernized to a DirectX 11 (DX11) base.
"Crazyracing KartRider," which Nexon released in 2004, was a representative title of Nexon that ranked among "national racing games" and enjoyed longevity for nearly 20 years. However, with the 2023 release of its sequel "KartRider: Drift," the original ended its service. "Drift" subsequently failed commercially, and its service was discontinued across all platforms last year, just two years after launch.
