NC AI, a multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) specialist, said Monday it has completed development of "VARCO 3D 2.0," an AI service that generates high-quality 3D assets (development materials) based on images or text.
VARCO 3D 2.0 substantially improves the performance of the previous model, drawing on user feedback accumulated since its launch in December last year and the company's own research achievements. Above all, it raised the level of technical refinement by significantly improving the problem of original shape distortion, long cited as the biggest limitation of 3D-generating AI.
VARCO 3D 2.0 focused on resolving the limitation of existing 3D-generating AI, which transforms into shapes different from the original image. It generates 3D models that faithfully reflect the silhouette and overall proportions of the original image, while reproducing complex decorative elements and detailed structures with high accuracy. A key feature is that it precisely implements objects with complex structures, such as characters, creatures and buildings, while maintaining the intended design.
VARCO 3D 2.0 also recorded 0.449 points on the benchmark indicator Uni3D, a 40.8% improvement over the previous version 1.1. It also outperformed major competing models, including the latest global open-source models Trellis2 (0.436), Ultrashape (0.428) and Hunyuan3D 2.1 (0.427).
In addition, it supports high-quality textures at up to 4K resolution, realistically implementing the textures of various materials, fine surface patterns and wear expressions.
Using this service, 3D assets that experts once produced over about four weeks can be generated in up to three minutes, dramatically reducing the cost and time of data construction.
The VARCO 3D 2.0 model will be applied to the VARCO 3D software-as-a-service (SaaS) service next month. Along with improved shape-retention performance and high-quality texture generation capabilities, various new features will be updated together. Existing users can experience the new version without any additional procedures.
"VARCO 3D 2.0 will innovate the working environment of content creators with its unrivaled shape-retention capability and high-quality texture expression," said Lee Yeon-soo, CEO of NC AI. "Based on proprietary AI technology, we will secure data security and AI technology independence, and grow it into key infrastructure leading the era of physical AI and digital twins."
