Nota (486990), led by CEO Chae Myung-soo, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG CNS (064400) to commercialize artificial intelligence (AI)-based real-time intelligent transport system (ITS) technology, the company said Tuesday.
The MOU was pursued to combine LG CNS's global smart city and ITS project capabilities with Nota's AI lightweighting and optimization technology. The two companies plan to expand joint business opportunities in overseas transport infrastructure markets. Specifically, they will broaden their cooperation to include joint marketing, field validation, development, business development and deployment to target the global market.
Drawing on its AI model lightweighting and optimization capabilities, Nota is implementing ITS technology that enables real-time video analysis even in edge environments. Through "NVA," a video monitoring solution based on a generative vision-language model (VLM), it can recognize and understand on-site situations and provide various traffic control functions such as traffic flow analysis, incident detection, and recognition of dangerous situations involving pedestrians and vehicles. In particular, it has strengths in enhancing real-time performance and operational efficiency by reducing dependence on the cloud.
ITS is regarded as a representative application area of physical AI, in that AI judges risk factors on actual roads and urban infrastructure and supports control and operational decision-making. Nota supports securing the real-time performance and stability required at traffic sites through its on-device AI optimization technology.
LG CNS has pursued various ITS projects in the global smart city market, centered on its Integrated Operations Center (IOC), which precisely analyzes and predicts traffic flow across entire cities. The two companies plan to jointly respond to demand for the digital transformation of traffic infrastructure and the advancement of AI-based traffic management by organically linking Nota's ITS technology with LG CNS's proprietary AI smart city platform installed in its Integrated Operations Center.
The two companies also plan to target the Americas as a key market and jointly identify specific project opportunities where AI-based ITS technology can be applied. Through this, they aim to expand practical AI application cases that can contribute to solving urban traffic problems, such as easing traffic congestion, preventing accidents, and improving road operation efficiency.
Cooperation between LG CNS and Nota has already taken shape through an ITS project in Nairobi, Kenya. Last year, Nota participated in a Nairobi traffic control center construction project led by LG CNS, implementing a smart intersection system based on AI model lightweighting and optimization for edge environments, securing a reference for overseas ITS business cooperation.
"Transport is a key area where physical AI can create real value in urban infrastructure, so based on both companies' technology and business capabilities, we will create AI-based intelligent transport system solutions that can be used in the field," Nota CEO Chae Myung-soo said.
