LG Uplus (032640.KS) said Monday that AI is rapidly spreading into actual work, with company-wide adoption surpassing 80% about a month after it introduced a generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based work environment.
LG Uplus adopted Microsoft's (MS) Copilot as its company-wide standard work tool last month. Within about a month, employee usage exceeded 80%, and the cumulative number of prompts surpassed 440,000.
On average, each employee performed about 86 tasks through AI, and about 63% of all users were found to use AI at least once a day. LG Uplus explained, "This shows that generative AI is being used across all company operations rather than being limited to specific organizations or job functions."
LG Uplus built Copilot in a dedicated in-house environment and linked it with internal work data, raising its utility as "an AI that understands the company well." With existing external AI services, the use of in-house data was often restricted due to security concerns, and there was the limitation of having to additionally verify whether the AI's answers matched actual work data.
However, Copilot connects in real time with work data within in-house systems, understanding employees' questions in the context of their work. As a result, employees can receive responses based on in-house data without separate data processing and use them in actual work, according to LG Uplus.
Changes are also appearing in how work is actually performed. In data classification tasks, switching to automating standard-setting and classification using the Claude model within Copilot reduced related work time by about 90%.
Going forward, LG Uplus plans to advance its AX (AI transformation) by building AI environments optimized for each type of work, beyond productivity gains through AI. While continuing to use Copilot as its company-wide standard work tool, the company plans to support employees in using the optimal AI in specialized areas, such as "Codex" and "Claude Code" for vibe coding, "Figma" and "Claude" for service planning, and "Gemini" for content generation.
Hwang Seung-yeon, head of Strategy and AX at LG Uplus, said, "Within a relatively short period after the introduction, we are confirming its use across various work areas," adding, "We will continue to supplement related systems so that the AI-based work environment can stably take root."
