Day1Company (373160), which operates online education platform Fast Campus, has suffered a breach in which the personal information of instructors and customers was leaked. According to the company's estimate, the personal data of up to 1 million people was compromised. For some instructors, sensitive information including resident registration numbers was also found to have been leaked. Day1Company has reported the data breach to relevant authorities and is investigating the detailed circumstances of the leak.
According to industry sources Wednesday, an abnormal intrusion into Day1Company's IT management system on the 9th of last month resulted in the theft of personal information of online education platform instructors and customers. A total of eight Day1Company platforms were involved in the data breach: Fast Campus, Coloso, Zerobase, MyLight, Newspresso, Respeak, Shiny English and Wannaspeak.
The company estimates the scale of the personal data leak at a minimum of several hundred thousand people to a maximum of 1 million. For some registered instructors, names, phone numbers, account numbers, resident registration numbers and credit card numbers were reportedly leaked. However, Day1Company said that because it does not hold sensitive information such as customers' resident registration numbers and connecting information (CI), none of that customer information was leaked.
Day1Company first became aware of the data breach on the 8th of this month and reported it to the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT). It then took follow-up reporting measures with the Personal Information Protection Commission on the 11th. Day1Company is cooperating with police investigations and inquiries by relevant authorities while working to determine the detailed circumstances of the incident.
