
SK Telecom (017670.KS) said Wednesday it held a seminar to engage with students and developers interested in its sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model. The event was designed to make it easier to understand the academic foundations on which the model is being developed and the prior research it builds upon.
Seo In-seok, a professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Seoul National University, gave a presentation titled "Mathematical Artificial Intelligence: The Difference Between Plausibility and Correctness" at the seminar held the previous day at SK Telecom's headquarters in Euljiro, Seoul. From a mathematician's perspective, he explained in accessible terms what kind of mathematics AI performs and how large language models (LLMs) learn mathematics.
About 200 AI professionals, including developers, students and employees of SK Group companies, attended the seminar, posing various questions and engaging in discussion.
SK Telecom's elite team organized the seminar to share with the public the AI technology trends it has researched while carrying out the government's sovereign AI foundation model project. On June 23, Yoo Young-jae, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, will present on AI inference methods, and on July 1, Yoon Sung-roh, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will present on the AI model ecosystem. Each seminar will be available for easy participation through live online streaming on the day of the event.
SK Telecom's elite team plans to conduct industry-academia collaboration at the consortium level so that "A.X K2" can develop performance suitable for model utilization and industrial expansion, including agent functions such as solving mathematical problems and coding. "The purpose of this seminar is to convey the technical background behind model training in an easy-to-understand way, so that anyone can understand and relate to what capabilities a sovereign foundation model should have," said Kim Tae-yoon, head of foundation models at SK Telecom.
