Nexon's long-running game "Crazy Arcade" will end its service after 25 years.
Nexon recently announced through the official Crazy Arcade website that "the service will be terminated for the last time at 9 a.m. on August 13." Nexon explained that it made the decision after internal discussions, judging that it would be difficult to provide satisfactory service to users in the long term.
However, the gaming industry views the move as Nexon clearing out Crazy Arcade in line with its policy of winding down unprofitable businesses. A service official also hinted that the decision was made by the executive team.
With the service ending in August, paid products in the game's store have been discontinued. All products purchased with paid Nexon Cash in the store from 9 a.m. on March 11 to 9 a.m. on the 11th of this month can be refunded. Items purchased with Nexon Cash during this period are refundable regardless of whether they have been used.
Nexon said it would hold events to express its gratitude to users before the service ends. During the event period, experience points and Lucci acquisition rates will increase tenfold at all times, and event reward items will be given through Crazy Arcade missions (limited) upon access.
Crazy Arcade is a 2D online game released domestically in October 2001. It has a strong fan base thanks to its intuitive gameplay, in which players trap opponents using water balloons, and its distinctive characters. When news of the service termination spread, the official website bulletin board has seen a series of opinions calling for the termination to be canceled. Reactions filled with regret dominate, such as "This is too sudden," "If you're going to shut it down, please transfer it to another company," and "I oppose the service termination."
Nexon said, "We sincerely apologize for causing great disappointment with this sudden news," adding, "We once again sincerely thank all members of the 'Crazy Arcade' family who have been with us. We will cherish the support, love, and memories you have shared with us."
Meanwhile, Crazy Shooting Bubble Fighter, now in its 17th year since launch, is also scheduled to end its service on the 24th of this month.
