
NHN has appointed Yang Cheol-woong, head of its technology division, as chief technology officer (CTO).
According to the information technology (IT) industry Friday, Yang recently took the role of NHN CTO and presented "speed and direction" as the key keyword for technology organizations in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) at a town hall meeting held Wednesday. "What matters as much as moving fast is heading in the right direction," Yang said. "Based on technology strategy and execution capabilities, I will connect the group's technological capabilities and create synergy."
Yang holds a doctorate in computer science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and is a technology expert with more than 20 years of experience in internet infrastructure, traffic optimization, networks, security and cloud computing. He joined NHN Cloud in 2022 and served as director of its security development lab, leading security technology research and development as well as platform advancement.
He will take on the role of strengthening the group's technological competitiveness by raising the organization's execution speed through development innovation using AI and by systematizing the technology roadmap and research and development direction. He plans to focus on artificial intelligence transformation (AX), leading the expansion of AI adoption and technology collaboration across group affiliates.
With this appointment, NHN has established a C-level leadership structure centered on Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jung Woo-jin, comprising CTO Yang Cheol-woong, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ahn Hyun-sik, Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Hwang Sun-young, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Lee Seung-chan, and Chief Game Officer (CGO) Kim Sang-ho, who represents the game business division.
