OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman will meet with executives of Naver and Kakao.
According to industry sources Wednesday, Altman is scheduled to meet with Kakao CEO Chung Shina at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Kakao's Pangyo Agit office in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. At the meeting, the two companies will discuss expanding their ongoing cooperation.
Kakao and OpenAI signed a partnership in February last year to integrate ChatGPT into Kakao's major services. Kakao subsequently launched "ChatGPT for Kakao" in October last year as a result of that partnership.
"We plan to disclose specific discussion details after the meeting," a Kakao official said.
Altman will then visit Naver's 1784 building in Seongnam to meet with Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon and Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won. While the specific agenda has not been disclosed, the two companies are expected to explore new avenues of cooperation, as they have had no clear collaborative relationship until now.
As Naver has built a full-stack AI infrastructure, including large-scale data centers and cloud infrastructure, the possibility of joining hands with OpenAI in the AI infrastructure field has been raised. Naver is accelerating its expansion of AI infrastructure cooperation, having announced on Monday that it would jointly pursue a global AI factory project with Nvidia.
Meanwhile, Altman will visit Korea for a two-day trip beginning Saturday. It marks his first visit to Korea in about eight months since October last year.
