
Naver has unveiled application plans and strategies for defense AI that can be implemented in the field, including the construction of dedicated AI data centers (AIDC) for the military.
Naver Cloud said Tuesday that it introduced a plan for practical defense AI implementation containing these details at the "Defense AX Development Strategy Seminar Based on Sovereign AI," held at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) on Monday.
At the seminar, Naver Cloud presented an omnimodal AI model that integrates and understands text, voice, video, and maps as a single operational situation, along with a system centered on forward-deployed engineers (FDE), as the core pillars of defense AI sovereignty.
Yoo Kyung-bum, an executive director at Naver Cloud, stressed, "The 'HyperCLOVA X OMNI' model can understand diverse battlefield data as a single integrated situation, and through a world model that predicts the possibility of changes in the battlefield environment, it can convert this into intelligence that commanders can understand."
The company also highlighted its ability to provide dedicated defense AIDCs as a strength. The approach involves establishing a central data center that integrates and trains data from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff while advancing the models, and deploying edge data centers that can respond even when communications are cut off, such as at front lines, on ships, and at mobile command posts, and connecting them. "Naver Cloud also has a track record of building cloud infrastructure in a container-based modular format at institutions such as the Bank of Korea," Yoo said. "We can provide unified defense AI infrastructure that connects seamlessly from the center to the battlefield edge."
In addition, Naver Cloud cited the formation of an FDE organization that forward-deploys engineers to the field as its differentiator, explaining that through rapid prototyping and verification, it can help strengthen forces through close support at actual operational sites.
