KT (030200.KS) has established a communication quality inspection and response system in major crowded areas where cheering is planned, ahead of South Korea's first World Cup match on Wednesday.
According to KT, large crowds are expected to gather at Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square, City Hall Plaza, and the Yeongdong-daero area in Gangnam. KT has conducted advance communication quality inspections of these areas and prepared network operation plans to handle increased traffic.
In particular, the company applied network technology based on W-SDN (Wireless-Software Defined Network) to its response system. W-SDN is an intelligent control system that precisely analyzes real-time traffic from a central location and automatically manages base stations at risk of overload. By immediately reallocating network resources in response to changes in crowd density and service usage, it can stably provide communication services even at large-scale events.
KT decided to operate a step-by-step response system to handle sharp increases in traffic. The company will deploy additional mobile base stations in advance and conduct 24-hour special monitoring at its Gwacheon network control center before and after the cheering schedule. KT plans to immediately dispatch recovery personnel in the event of unusual situations.
