SK Telecom (017670.KS) officially announced its participation in 'Project Glasswing,' an artificial intelligence (AI) security cooperation initiative.
SKT said Wednesday that it has joined Project Glasswing and obtained early access to Claude Mythos. Project Glasswing is an international cooperation framework that jointly builds cyber vulnerability verification and response systems based on Claude Mythos, Anthropic's high-performance AI model.
Anthropic had initially restricted access to a small number of parties, including the U.S. government and Big Tech firms, due to concerns that Mythos could be exploited for hacking. However, earlier this month, the company announced it would expand Project Glasswing participation to more than 150 organizations across over 15 countries.
As a result, Korean companies including SKT have joined alongside the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). Last month, MSIT met with Anthropic officials, including Global Policy Head Michael Sellitto, to explore participation in Project Glasswing.
According to a report by the U.K.'s Financial Times (FT) on Tuesday local time, Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) and SK hynix (000660.KS) are also among the Korean companies included, in addition to SKT. However, neither company has issued an official statement to date.
"Through this project, we plan to strengthen the security of critical infrastructure and services by preemptively defending against risk factors," SKT said Wednesday. "We are conducting tests in accordance with strict regulations and management guidelines to ensure that new technologies can be used safely."
