Sohn Hoon, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), has been named the June recipient of the Korea Science and Technology Award, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and co-organized by the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Seoul Economic Daily.
The ministry and the foundation said on the 3rd that they selected Sohn for developing technology that enables real-time disaster and emergency alerts for small and medium-sized infrastructure, contributing to enhancing the safety of the nation's construction infrastructure. The affordable, high-precision displacement sensor he developed costs just one-fortieth of conventional sensors while delivering ultra-high precision.
