KT (030200.KS) is partnering with college students to reach out to youth in information-underserved regions across the country, aiming to bridge the digital divide in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
KT held the launch ceremony for the fourth class of KT College IT Supporters (KIT), comprised of college students majoring in science and engineering, at its Gwanghwamun headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the company said Tuesday. KIT is an outreach volunteer corps that was established to provide AI and IT education to youth in islands, mountainous areas, and underprivileged regions nationwide. Over the next four months, the members will develop an AI ethics education curriculum using generative AI and conduct AI ethics camps featuring experiential content.
KIT has been continuing AI education in collaboration with various institutions. Last year, the program offered coding lectures and mentoring on AI ethics to approximately 440 students at eight middle schools in South Chungcheong Province, along with experiential AI education linked to the "KT AI Station." In partnership with the National Information Society Agency (NIA), the Kyobo Life Insurance Public Welfare Foundation, and the Korea Communications Agency (KCA), KIT supported participatory programs such as AI ethics debates and board games for around 170 youths.
"Education that fosters proper ethical awareness is just as important as the ability to utilize AI technology," said Lee Jung-woo, Executive Vice President of KT's ESG Promotion Division. "As an AX platform company, KT will work together with the KT College IT Supporters to help young people grow into Korean AI talents equipped with sound ethical values."
