South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) met with global artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic on Tuesday to explore cooperation in AI and cybersecurity, as well as measures to stimulate the domestic AI industry.
The ministry said it held a meeting with officials including Michael Sellitto, Anthropic's Head of Global Policy, to discuss a range of cooperation agendas including securing AI safety and trust. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Intelligence Service, the Financial Services Commission, the AI Safety Institute (AISI), the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and the Financial Security Institute also participated.
Global cybersecurity concerns raised by Anthropic's latest AI model, "Mithos," were addressed as a key agenda item. The MSIT proposed cooperation between Anthropic and Korean companies and institutions in the cybersecurity field. AISA and KISA officially requested, as Korea's representatives, to participate in "Project Glasswing," Anthropic's high-performance security AI cooperation framework.
The ministry also asked Anthropic to share relevant information so that Korea can prepare in advance for the disclosure of security vulnerabilities using Mithos and similar models.
However, participation in the Glasswing Project has yet to be confirmed. The MSIT said, "Through this meeting, we agreed to continue active cooperation and working-level discussions on the use of AI models in cybersecurity."
Cooperation plans on domestic AI policies and institutions, including the Framework Act on AI, were also discussed. The ministry said it "emphasized that the Framework Act on AI is drawing global attention as a leading case that provides the basis for AI industry innovation and for building public trust," and asked Anthropic, as a leading global AI company, to share its various experiences in establishing AI safety foundations.
The meeting was a follow-up to discussions between MSIT Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on AI cooperation at the 2026 India AI Impact Summit held in February. Ryu Je-myung, Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT, said, "We will actively cooperate with leading global AI companies to strengthen the prevention and response systems for AI risks, including securing the safety of AI models and enhancing cybersecurity capabilities."
