Samsung SDS (018260.KS) said Monday it has completed the implementation of SAP's next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150.KS).
The project marks the first completed case since Samsung SDS obtained the "RISE with SAP Premium Supplier" qualification last year. The Premium Supplier status represents SAP's highest global partnership tier, allowing the holder to handle the entire cloud ERP transition process, including ERP consulting, system implementation and operation, and cloud infrastructure provision.
Samsung SDS applied technology that minimizes system downtime, migrating Samsung Electro-Mechanics' large-scale data to the new ERP while maintaining business continuity. The technology carries out data migration and system transition while the system is running, reducing disruptions caused by operational halts. Based on SAP's "HANA Database" system, the downtime required to migrate 8.5 terabytes (TB) of data was cut from 140 hours to 34 hours, a reduction of about 76%.
Samsung SDS said the next-generation ERP system has improved Samsung Electro-Mechanics' information technology (IT) efficiency and data processing performance. Using data volume management technology, the SAP HANA Database capacity was reduced from 8.5 TB to 5.5 TB, a decrease of approximately 35%. In addition, performance improvements in key systems such as manufacturing, finance, and costing boosted operational efficiency by more than 25%.
"This case is a meaningful achievement as the first successful completion of a Premium Supplier-based cloud ERP transition in Korea," said Song Hae-koo, Executive Vice President of the Solution Business Division at Samsung SDS. "Samsung SDS will lead cloud ERP transitions providing services across all areas of SAP's ERP and expand its business."
