LG Uplus (032640.KS), facing controversy over the exposure of International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) numbers, opened a store visit reservation system on Thursday ahead of its USIM update and replacement program.
The company said customers can select their preferred store, date and time slot through the U+One application and the "Store Visit Reservation" menu on its website.
LG Uplus plans to begin USIM updates and free replacements for all customers sequentially starting May 13. The carrier has been sending text message notifications to all customers since April 30. A total of 16.41 million text notifications were completed by May 7. Each message included the required procedures based on the customer's USIM type and update eligibility.
To minimize confusion during the early rollout phase, LG Uplus will operate a company-wide customer care situation room and conduct comprehensive checks on USIM inventory, store operations and customer inquiry volumes. "We have prepared both the reservation system and on-site operational framework so that customers can receive USIM updates and free replacements more conveniently and reliably," said Lee Jae-won, executive vice president and head of LG Uplus's consumer division. "We will do our utmost to minimize customer inconvenience and ensure the enhanced security system is applied without disruption."
