South Korea's three major mobile carriers have begun preparing measures to ensure network stability ahead of BTS's comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on June 21.
According to the telecommunications industry on June 15, the three carriers—SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus—are implementing traffic management systems using proprietary technologies and installing temporary equipment to stabilize on-site communications.
SK Telecom will deploy its self-developed AI-based network operating system "A.One" for the first time at this event. The company plans to design an optimized communication environment for the venue. On the day of the concert, it will monitor on-site traffic changes in real time and respond to increases in users, network quality degradation, and equipment malfunctions. Beyond the existing network infrastructure, SK Telecom has expanded network capacity by installing additional temporary equipment and optimized base stations by setting up separate temporary facilities in areas with high roaming user concentrations.
KT will apply its AI-based traffic management solution "W-SDN," which automatically controls base station overloads in preparation for potential wireless traffic surges from social media uploads. The company has also deployed six mobile base stations around Gwanghwamun Square and Seoul Plaza, adding 79 wireless base stations and 14 Wi-Fi units to increase network capacity.
LG Uplus plans to use autonomous network technology to predict traffic fluctuations before the event and manage communication quality during the concert through an integrated operation system connecting the venue and its control center. The company has deployed additional mobile base stations and temporary repeaters at Gwanghwamun Square and approximately 10 nearby key locations, while completing capacity checks and pre-optimization of existing base stations.
On-site response capabilities are also being strengthened. SK Telecom will divide the Gwanghwamun and Seoul City Hall areas into three zones based on crowd density and usage patterns, operating customized networks for each section. KT and LG Uplus will also activate emergency response systems centered at their Gwacheon Network Control Center and Magok Network Operations Center, respectively.
