Gabia partners with Macquarie Asset Management to build hyperscale IDC platform

Gabia (079940) announced on the 4th that it has signed a strategic partnership with Macquarie Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Fund 4 (MAIF4), managed by Macquarie Asset Management Group, to develop a domestic hyperscale data center platform.

Under the joint venture agreement signed on February 25, the two companies plan to jointly invest approximately 600 billion won (about $420 million) over the next four to six years. The project aims to build hyperscale data center infrastructure with a cumulative capacity exceeding 100MW at major domestic locations. The exact investment ratio will remain undisclosed per mutual agreement.

The partnership's first deliverable is a 40MW data center in Ansan. The Ansan IDC will be developed as a new hub for AI infrastructure in the Seoul metropolitan area. The facility will be organically connected to the Gwacheon IDC, which specializes in accommodating high-performance GPU servers, creating an integrated and complementary infrastructure system.

The two companies plan to continue close cooperation for expanding domestic data center infrastructure. MAIF4 will lead asset development and financial activities including land acquisition, permits, and project financing. Gabia, together with its subsidiary KINX, will oversee overall service operations including data center design, network construction, operation, and maintenance.

KINX, Korea's only neutral internet exchange (IX) operator, provides robust connectivity to the platform. Gabia leverages KINX's infrastructure to support optimized multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments for tenant companies. Through this strategy, the company aims to serve as a hub connecting domestic and international cloud service providers (CSPs) while securing differentiated competitiveness in performance and reliability.

"In the rapidly growing Korean AI market, driven by proactive government investment, AI adoption across manufacturing, and rising demand for on-device AI, our partnership with Gabia holds significant meaning," said Kim Yong-hwan, Korea Head of Macquarie Asset Management Group. "As AI utilization expands in earnest in Korea, advancing the digital infrastructure to support it is essential, and Gabia, with its end-to-end capabilities, is the optimal partner to lead this transformation together."

"This collaboration marks a pivotal turning point in extending the infrastructure capabilities that Gabia Group has accumulated to hyperscale," said Won Jong-hong, Co-CEO of Gabia. "Through the Ansan data center, we will respond to the explosive demand for AI infrastructure and drive our customers' growth."
