Shinhan Card confirmed Friday that personal information of approximately 190,000 individuals was leaked from one of its sales offices.
According to Shinhan Card, personal information of about 192,088 merchant representatives was exposed during new card recruitment processes. The leaked data includes 181,585 cases of mobile phone numbers, 8,120 cases of mobile phone numbers with names, 2,310 cases of mobile phone numbers with names, birth year and gender, and 73 cases of mobile phone numbers with names and full birth dates.
"This involves only merchant representatives' information and has no connection to general customer data," a Shinhan Card official said. "This was not caused by hacking or external intrusion. Our investigation found this was a deviation by some internal employees for new card recruitment purposes."
