LG Electronics (066570.KS) is establishing an artificial intelligence research center in partnership with Seoul National University to strengthen security functions throughout the AI development process and address limitations in AI technology.
LG Electronics announced Tuesday that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Seoul National University in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, to establish the "Secured AI Research Center."
The new center will focus on researching and developing technologies for creating a safe AI ecosystem, including AI agent security enhancement and data leakage prevention technologies. While AI is emerging as a tool that boosts productivity across various sectors, it still suffers from "hallucination" phenomena that generate false information. Threats such as external attempts to steal data are also on the rise.
The center will establish a "Machine Learning Security Operations (MLSecOps)" model that applies security systems throughout the entire software development and operations process. Through this approach, the center aims to strengthen intrusion detection and data protection across the entire process from data collection to training, deploying, and operating AI models. MLSecOps applies the DevOps (Development + Operations) concept, which integrates software development and operations, to the AI development field.
Professor Hong Yong-taek of Seoul National University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will serve as the center's inaugural director. Hong is a fellow of the Society for Information Display (SID) and a full member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, and received the Innovation Medal of the Order of Science and Technology Merit of the Republic of Korea in 2025. At LG Electronics, Lim Hyo-jun, head of the Next-Generation Computing Research Institute under the CTO Division, will oversee and coordinate research projects.

"We will work to advance next-generation security technologies, establish leadership in the AI security space, and provide safer and more reliable products and services to customers and society."
