The Korea Institute of Sport Science (KISS), affiliated with the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, will provide customized sports science support for athletes competing in the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
KISS announced its detailed support plan on the 31st for national team athletes competing in this Asian Games. The most notable feature of the plan is precise, sport-specific support using cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and three-dimensional motion analysis.
For shooting, KISS will support precise individual diagnosis through 2D and 3D muzzle vibration analysis and posture-estimation-based fault analysis, while producing customized firearm components for each athlete using a 3D scanner.
For badminton, it will analyze and provide data on opponents' patterns, movement distances, and stroke positions through a new AI-based algorithm.
For swimming, it will analyze key variables such as takeoff speed, angle, and distance through start marker measurement based on 3D motion analysis.
KISS also divided its support strategy into three tiers based on performance level by sport. For sports considered strong medal contenders, such as recurve archery, sabre fencing, and taekwondo sparring, it established a support strategy to widen the gap with other countries through "all-in-one" support combining psychology, fitness and conditioning, technique, and video analysis.
There is also a "podium conversion for near-medal sports" for sports that need to overcome slight performance gaps with top athletes, such as track cycling, table tennis, and taekwondo poomsae. There is customized support for specialized and new sports as well. Although not official Olympic events, KISS will build a customized sports science support model for Asian Games-specialized sports such as kurash, jiu-jitsu, and mixed martial arts.
A KISS official said, "KISS will continue close cooperation with the Jincheon National Training Center until the day the Asian Games end," adding, "We will do our best so that the national team can deliver its best performance."
