Lee Seung-chan, "Korea's only left-handed golfer," has claimed victory at the 11th event of the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) David Golf Tour, the association's secondary tour, which carried total prize money of 100 million won.
Lee added a 4-under-par in the second round of the tournament held on the 14th at the Sol Course (par 71) of Solago CC in Taean, South Chungcheong Province, finishing at a combined 5-under-par 137 to edge out the second-place group by one stroke. It marks his second career win on the secondary tour. The winner's prize was 20 million won.
Lee has a special connection with Solago CC, having collected three championship trophies there so far. In 2018, when he was still a high school student, he won the Solago Cup Amateur Championship, and last year he won the 6th event of the KPGA Challenge Tour. Both were held at Solago CC.
"Solago CC has strong winds blowing in from the sea, but I had confidence because it is a course where I had already experienced winning," Lee said. "The fact that winds that are difficult for other players can be helpful winds for me as a left-handed golfer also works to my advantage."
Lee, who served on the national reserve team during his amateur days, is the only left-hander among domestic tour professionals. His parents are also left-handed. His father bought him left-handed clubs, saying, "A left-hander must learn with the left hand to bring out their ability."
Lee, who has been competing across the first and second tours since 2023, made the cut four times in nine events during the first half of this season's KPGA Tour. His best result was a tie for 14th at the Gunsan CC Open.
"The first event of the second half, the Donga Membership Group Open, will be held at Solago CC. I have expectations, but I will approach the tournament humbly without being greedy," Lee said.
