Donovan Mitchell of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers has agreed to a mega contract, extending his stay with the team.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday (Korea time) that Mitchell, who had two seasons remaining on his existing deal, agreed to a four-year extension with Cleveland worth up to $273 million (about 413.5 billion won).
The contract includes a player option worth $76 million for the 2030-2031 season. Mitchell can exercise the option if he remains with Cleveland in the final season of the deal, but he would forfeit that amount if he chooses to leave.
By total value, the deal is the fourth-largest in NBA history. It ranks behind Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics at $314 million, Jaylen Brown of the Philadelphia 76ers at $285 million, and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets at $276 million.
Mitchell averaged 27.9 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds last regular season, leading Cleveland to its first Eastern Conference finals appearance since 2018, ending an eight-year drought.
Meanwhile, Cleveland has been mentioned as a possible next destination for LeBron James, who recently left the Los Angeles Lakers. Locally, it is reported that Mitchell's teammate James Harden is also discussing a new contract on the premise of remaining with Cleveland.
