Park Ji-sung, 45, will co-chair the "K-Football Innovation Committee" being formed by the government.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Wednesday that it will launch the "K-Football Innovation Committee" for temporary operation at the Olympic Parktel in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on Saturday. "Culture Minister Choi Hwi-young and FIFA committee member Park Ji-sung will serve as co-chairs," the ministry said.
The committee will comprehensively discuss key tasks aimed at boosting the future competitiveness of Korean football, including K-football governance, the development of youth players, and the introduction of advanced technology systems, in response to the calls for K-football innovation raised in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America.
Minister Choi posted on X (Twitter) that day, "We have agreed to form the innovation committee together with members Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo, and Park Joo-ho to revive Korean football, which is in crisis," and shared photos taken with Park Ji-sung and Lee Young-pyo respectively.
The committee includes football figures such as commentators Lee Young-pyo and Park Joo-ho, as well as sports officials and experts including Yoo Seung-min, president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee; Kim Seung-hee, executive director of the Korea Football Association; Cho Yeon-sang, secretary general of the Korea Professional Football League; attorney Yoo Young-geun; and professor Kim Dae-hee.
Co-Chair Park Ji-sung said, "We will design the direction Korean football should take together, reflecting the various concerns discussed on the ground, and draw up a future in which K-football can continue to grow."
