Rory McIlroy, the world's second-ranked men's golfer, took time out of his busy schedule to watch the Wimbledon tennis championships.
According to foreign media outlets including The Associated Press, McIlroy appeared in the Centre Court of the All England Club in London, where the 2026 Wimbledon tournament was held, on July 1. McIlroy, 37, of Northern Ireland, who won the Masters golf major for the second consecutive year this year, drew enthusiastic cheers from spectators as he appeared alongside his wife Erica while wearing the green jacket, the symbol of the Masters champion.
McIlroy, a six-time major winner, is also well known as a tennis fan and has attended several major tennis tournaments including Wimbledon. Joining him on this visit were colleagues including Luke Donald, captain of the European Ryder Cup team, along with Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and the brothers Francesco and Edoardo Molinari.
McIlroy moved his residence from Florida in the United States to London last year for his daughter Poppy's education. After skipping the Travelers Championship, an elite PGA Tour event, last week and crossing over to Britain, he was recently spotted practicing at Royal Birkdale golf course on the Lancashire coast, where the major tournament The Open will be held starting July 16.
Ahead of The Open, McIlroy plans to compete in the Genesis Scottish Open, co-sanctioned by the U.S. PGA Tour and the European DP World Tour, starting July 9 to sharpen his shot-making.
