The Korea Auto Racing Association (KARA) is accelerating efforts to enhance safety systems at motorsport venues.
KARA announced Monday that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Yonsei University Wonju Severance Christian Hospital (hereinafter Wonju Severance Christian Hospital) to strengthen motorsport safety systems.
The agreement is part of measures to realize enhanced safety and the advancement of rescue and emergency medical systems, which are among the "Four Future Visions" that KARA announced to mark its 30th anniversary. It is the third memorandum of understanding signed with a regional hub hospital, following agreements with Mokpo Hankook Hospital in the Jeonnam region and Gumi Cha Hospital in the Gyeongbuk region. Through this agreement, KARA has expanded its cooperation system to the Gangwon region, further strengthening its trauma and emergency medical network centered on major key regions.
Considering the characteristics of motorsport, where accidents during high-speed driving are highly likely to result in severe trauma, KARA has been pursuing the establishment of a specialized medical system that dispatches severe trauma specialists to the scene and links them with emergency and trauma centers. In particular, with the foundation now in place to utilize the doctor helicopter and specialized medical staff operated by Wonju Severance Christian Hospital, more rapid and systematic responses are expected to be possible even in severe trauma situations that may occur at circuits in the Gangwon region.
"We have actively continued medical support related to various sports," an official at Wonju Severance Christian Hospital said. "We will support motorsport venues based on the nation's top-level trauma medical capabilities."
