The crowning of the champion at the season's final signature event was delayed by a day.
The PGA Tour Travelers Championship (total purse $20 million, winner's prize $3.6 million), held at TPC River Highlands (par 70) in Cromwell, Connecticut, ended due to sunset Saturday ahead of a playoff between Scottie Scheffler of the United States and Viktor Hovland of Norway.
A 90-minute weather delay during the fourth round meant the winner will ultimately be decided on Monday. Both Hovland, who shaved one stroke, and Scheffler, who cut two, finished at a total of 21-under par.
The playoff, to be played on the 18th hole (par 4), begins at 10 p.m. on Sunday Korea time.
Hovland surged with three consecutive birdies on holes 13 through 15, putting Scheffler at risk of a come-from-behind defeat. On the final 18th hole, Scheffler faced a tricky par putt of about 2.5 meters. Missing it would have meant losing outright. But the ball off Scheffler's putter found the hole, and he celebrated with a short, sharp fist pump.
Scheffler is going for his second win of the season and 21st career title, while Hovland is chasing his eighth career win. Hovland's last victory came at the Valspar Championship in March last year.
Collin Morikawa of the United States finished third at 20-under par, one stroke behind Scheffler and Hovland, while Matt Fitzpatrick of England was fourth at 19-under par. Wyndham Clark of the United States, who won the CJ Cup and the U.S. Open this year, was tied for fifth at 18-under par.
Im Sung-jae was tied for 30th at 11-under par, and Kim Si-woo was tied for 44th at 9-under par. Kim dropped 34 spots after losing three strokes on the day, including two double bogeys.
