South Korea's women's epee fencing team won the team event at the Asian Fencing Championships. South Korea, which collected 12 medals (four gold, one silver, and seven bronze), finished the competition in second place overall.
The women's epee team, composed of Song Se-ra (Busan Metropolitan City Hall), Lim Tae-hee (Gyeryong City Hall), Lee Hye-in (Ulsan Metropolitan City Hall), and Yang Seung-hye (Korea National Sport University), reached the top in the team event at the 2026 Asian Championships held in New Delhi, India, on Saturday. It marked the team's return to the top for the first time in two years since 2024. The women's epee team, which had achieved four consecutive titles through 2024, lost to China in the final last year and took silver.
That day, the women's epee team thrashed Taiwan 45-28 in the quarterfinals and Kazakhstan 45-29 in the semifinals.
In the final, they faced China, last year's opponent, again and won 44-43.
In the men's foil team event held the same day, Yoon Jung-hyun, Lee Kwang-hyun, Lim Cheol-woo (all from Hwaseong City Hall), and Kim Tae-hwan (Chungnam Sports Council) competed and shared the bronze medal behind Japan and Hong Kong.
South Korean fencing finished the competition in second place overall, behind Japan (six gold, five silver, four bronze). The result was achieved despite preparations made under difficult circumstances, as access to the handball stadium at Seoul Olympic Park, home to the Korea Fencing Federation, was blocked by a protest condemning the ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections, paralyzing administrative functions.
Athletes were unable to take out their equipment, including fencing blades, and had to procure them individually from their teams, while the federation also faced difficulties such as transferring various costs.
