Brazil, the record five-time World Cup champion, defeated Scotland to secure a spot in the round of 32 knockout stage.
Brazil claimed a 3-0 victory over Scotland in their third Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across North and Central America, at Miami Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Thursday.
The win gave Brazil a record of two wins and one draw (7 points), securing the top spot in the group and advancing to the round of 32.
Scotland finished third in the group with one win and two losses (3 points).
As Group C winners, Brazil will face the runner-up of Group F in the round of 32 at Houston Stadium in the United States on June 30.
Japan (4 points) currently holds second place in Group F.
The Netherlands (4 points) leads Group F and Sweden (3 points) is third, but the small points gap leaves room for change.
Japan plays its third group-stage match against Sweden at 8 a.m. on June 26.
Brazil took the lead with an opening goal just seven minutes into the first half. Raphinha intercepted the ball on the right flank inside the opponent's penalty area, and Vinicius Junior received it, beat the goalkeeper, and scored.
In the 48th minute of the first half, Vinicius netted his second goal. He finished off a cross from Bruno Guimaraes on the right flank with a header.
In the 15th minute of the second half, Matheus Cunha extended the gap between the two teams. Receiving a pass from Guimaraes inside the opponent's penalty area, Cunha calmly slotted it home with his right foot.
Having secured a comfortable lead, Brazil brought on Neymar to replace Cunha in the 31st minute of the second half.
Neymar, Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 international matches, suffered a calf injury during a club match on May 17.
Despite the injury, Neymar was selected for the Brazil national team. He did not play in the first or second group-stage matches but appeared in the final group game. It marked his fourth World Cup appearance, following the 2014 tournament in Brazil, the 2018 tournament in Russia, and the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Neymar did not record an attacking point, but his light movement raised fans' expectations.
No further goals followed, and the match ended in a comfortable Brazil victory.
