U.S. President Donald Trump plans to attend the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America and personally present the trophy to the winning team.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino appeared on the U.S. Fox News program "Fox & Friends" on Monday and said, "We will enjoy the (World Cup) final together with the President and present the trophy to the winning team together." He added, "We always cooperate together."
The 2026 World Cup is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Trump, along with the leaders of co-hosts Mexico and Canada, are also expected to be invited to the final and closing events. The World Cup final will be held July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The U.S. national team is sailing smoothly atop Group D with two consecutive wins in the group stage. However, Trump has not yet visited the stadium. He was unable to attend the U.S. team's opening match against Paraguay due to scheduling reasons, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio attending the stadium in his place.
Trump participated in the awards ceremony of the FIFA Club World Cup final held in New Jersey last year. At that time, he drew controversy by remaining on stage after the awards rather than stepping down, staying until the moment Chelsea captain Reece James lifted the trophy.
