South Korea national team captain Son Heung-min (LA FC) ranked seventh in top speed among players who competed in the first group stage matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North and Central America.
British outlet The Sun on Tuesday released a ranking of the top 10 fastest players among those who played in the first group stage matches of the World Cup. According to the outlet, Son recorded a top speed of 35.2 km/h in Group A's first match against the Czech Republic, tying with Jed Spence (England) for seventh place.
Australia's Jordan Bos took first place at 36.7 km/h. Erling Haaland (Norway) and Abdukodir Khusanov (Uzbekistan) tied for second at 36.5 km/h. Australia's Mohamed Toure (35.8 km/h) ranked fourth, followed by the Netherlands' Ryan Gravenberch and Ecuador's Alan Minda at 35.6 km/h and 35.5 km/h, respectively.
France's "ace" Kylian Mbappe recorded 35.1 km/h, ranking ninth, just behind Son. Tenth place included Portugal winger Pedro Neto (34.8 km/h) and others. However, this ranking was compiled based on the first group stage matches of the World Cup, so it may change later.
Meanwhile, Son will aim for his first goal of the tournament in Group A's final match against South Africa, to be played at 10 a.m. KST on Wednesday at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico.
