South Korea's women's sabre fencing team won a precious gold medal in the team event at the Asian Championships. It marked the team's return to the top after three years, since 2023.
The women's sabre team, consisting of Jeon Ha-young (Seoul Metropolitan Government), Kim Jeong-mi, Seo Ji-yeon (both Ansan City Hall), and Choi Se-bin (Daejeon Metropolitan City), won the gold medal in the team event at the 2026 Asian Championships held in New Delhi, India, on Monday.
It was the first time in three years, since 2023, that the Korean women's sabre team has reached the top of the team event at the Asian Championships. The team won a bronze medal in 2024 and a silver medal in the 2025 championships.
After defeating Thailand 45-19 in the quarterfinals, the team beat Uzbekistan 45-27 in the semifinals and held off Japan 45-35 in the final.
At this championship, Korea won both finals against Japan in the sabre team events, with the women's victory following the men's sabre the previous day.
In the men's epee team event, Park Sang-young (Ulsan Metropolitan City Hall), Kwon O-min (Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps), Son Min-seong (Hwaseong Special City Hall), and Nam Yeon-ho (Korea National Sport University) competed and combined for a bronze medal, finishing behind Kazakhstan and Japan.
With three gold medals, one silver medal, and six bronze medals at this championship, Korea is in second place in the overall standings and aims to add more medals in the women's epee and men's foil team events on the final day, Tuesday.
