Kim Doo-hyun, a former national team player and former head coach of K League 1 club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, is joining Vietnam's national football team as an assistant coach under head coach Kim Sang-sik.
According to DJ Management on Wednesday, assistant coach Kim Doo-hyun will assist head coach Kim Sang-sik on Vietnam's national team through October, competing in the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup and the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup.
Kim is a former national team midfielder who played in 62 A-match games. He also competed at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
He played for Seongnam Ilhwa, Suwon Samsung, West Bromwich Albion in England, the National Police Agency club, and FC Seoul.
After retiring, he coached at Suwon and Chengdu Rongcheng in China before taking the helm at Jeonbuk.
He played alongside Kim Sang-sik at Seongnam and on the national team during their playing days, and the two also worked together earlier at Jeonbuk as head coach and assistant coach.
"I find it deeply meaningful to be on the same team with head coach Kim Sang-sik again and to work together for Vietnamese football," Kim said. "I will do my best to show good performances and results to Vietnamese football fans."
