Kang Min-ji posted her best result of the season at the LPGA Tour's Meijer LPGA Classic (total purse $3.25 million). The title went to Miyu Yamashita of Japan.
Kang carded one eagle, five birdies and one bogey to shave six strokes in the tournament's final fourth round, held Saturday at Blythefield Country Club (par 72) in Belmont, Michigan.
With a total of 14-under-par 274, Kang finished tied for fifth, her best result this season. Her previous best was a tie for ninth at the Riviera Maya Open in April.
"After posting a good result (tied for 19th) at the U.S. Women's Open, I gained confidence and I'm satisfied with my current performance," Kang said after the round. "For next week's major (the KPMG Women's PGA Championship), I'll prepare the way I always have, practicing and checking my condition."
Yamashita finished at 17 under, tying England's Lottie Woad, then captured the title with a birdie in the first playoff hole at the 18th (par 5), edging Woad, who managed only par. It marks her third career win. The winner's prize is $487,500 (about 740 million won).
Yamashita won 13 titles on the Japan LPGA (JLPGA) Tour before making her LPGA Tour debut last year, where she won Rookie of the Year.
Lee So-mi finished at 11 under, tied for 10th, while Lim Jin-hee and Jeon In-ji finished at 10 under, tied for 12th.
