Brazil, the "Samba squad" ranked sixth in the FIFA world rankings, routed Haiti at the 2026 World Cup to move into first place in their group.
Brazil defeated Haiti 3-0 in their second Group C match of the tournament's group stage, held at Philadelphia Stadium in Pennsylvania on June 20, Korea time.
After drawing 1-1 with Morocco in their opening match, Brazil claimed their first win of the tournament in two games, posting a record of one win and one draw (four points). Brazil have the same points as Morocco (one win, one draw, four points), who earlier edged Scotland (one win, one loss, three points) 1-0, but lead the group ahead on goal difference.
Brazil, the World Cup's most successful nation with five titles and seeking their first World Cup crown in 24 years, will play their final match against Scotland on June 25. A draw against Scotland would secure a top-two finish in the group and advance them to the round of 32.
Matheus Cunha's brace and a goal from Vinicius Junior led Brazil to victory. After Raphinha's goal in the 12th minute was ruled out for offside, Vinicius Junior took a left-footed shot inside the penalty area off a pass from Bruno Guimaraes in the 23rd minute. The ball, spilled by Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide, deflected off Matheus Cunha and went into the net.
Then, in the 36th minute, Cunha completed his brace by finishing a through ball from Vinicius with a left-footed shot. In the third minute of first-half stoppage time, Vinicius, who had assisted Cunha's second goal, scored the clincher to make it 3-0.
In the 33rd minute of the second half, Endrick found the back of Haiti's net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Brazil failed to add any further goals, and the match ended in a three-goal victory.
Meanwhile, Haiti, with two losses, became the first team in the tournament to be eliminated from the knockout stage. Even if Haiti beat Morocco in their final match on June 25 and Scotland lose to Brazil to leave both teams level on three points, Haiti would finish fourth in the group, having lost 1-0 to Scotland in their first-round meeting.
