Hwacheon County in Gangwon Province has created a "Park Golf Hall of Fame" to commemorate the achievements of past champions of the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Park Golf Festival.
The county held an unveiling ceremony at the Hall of Fame, located inside the No. 2 course of the Sancheoneo Park Golf Course in Georye-ri, Hanam-myeon, on Monday, the county said Tuesday.
The circular Hall of Fame features standing signboards displaying images of the male and female MVPs from past Hwacheon Sancheoneo Park Golf Festivals, along with key competition records. The county plans to continue adding the records of future tournament champions.
The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Park Golf Festival is a national-scale park golf tournament held each autumn, drawing about 3,500 participants annually. With prize money of 30 million won each for the male and female MVP winners, the tournament's total prize pool reaches 200 million won, making it regarded as one of the top-tier competitions in the country.
"We created the Hall of Fame to commemorate the players who won with top-level skills," Hwacheon County Mayor Choi Moon-soon said. "We expect it will help elevate Hwacheon's standing as a center of park golf."
