San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo went 1-for-4 against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday Korea time, extending his longest hitting streak since his U.S. debut to 13 games.
Lee started as the No. 5 hitter and right fielder in the road game at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, recording one hit, one hit-by-pitch, and one run scored. His season batting average dipped slightly from .322 to .321 (68 hits in 212 at-bats).
Lee's only hit of the day was an extra-base hit. With a runner on first and no outs in the top of the fifth inning, Lee hit his 14th double of the season off opposing right-hander Phil Maton to continue his hitting streak. In the top of the sixth, he reached base again after being hit by a pitch from pitcher Hoby Milner, and scored when the following batter, Matt Chapman, hit a home run. Starting with Willy Adames' two-run shot in the bottom of the first, Chapman's grand slam and Casey Schmitt's two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth gave the team a commanding lead. Powered by explosive firepower that produced 6 runs in the fourth and 7 runs in the sixth, San Francisco crushed the Cubs 18-3.
