Song Sung-moon of the San Diego Padres went hitless again after earning his second consecutive start, extending his offensive slump.
Song started at second base and batted eighth in the Padres' road game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday (Korea time) in the 2026 Major League Baseball (MLB) season. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.
Song had started against the Washington Nationals on Sunday but went 0-for-2. He earned another starting opportunity in Tuesday's game but again failed to produce a hit. His season batting average dropped to .154 (4-for-26).
Leading off the top of the third inning with the score tied 0-0, Song flied out to left field after a seven-pitch battle with Phillies right-handed starter Aaron Nola. Leading off again in the top of the fifth, he swung and missed at a 126-kilometer-per-hour knuckle curve low and away on the seventh pitch for a strikeout. In the top of the seventh, with runners on first and third and the Padres trailing 2-3, he struck out with a chance to drive in runs.
San Diego lost to Philadelphia 2-3. Mired in a three-game losing streak, the Padres fell to 32-27 (.542), tying the Arizona Diamondbacks for second place in the National League (NL) West.
