The Buick LPGA Shanghai will be staged with the largest prize purse of any tournament held in Asia on the LPGA Tour.
The LPGA Tour announced Sunday, Korea time, that the Buick LPGA Shanghai, to be held October 15-18 at Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, China, will offer a total purse of $3.2 million (approximately 4.84 billion won). According to the LPGA, the $3.2 million purse is the largest of any LPGA Tour event held in Asia.
Launched in 2018, the tournament was originally held at Qizhong Garden Golf Club near Shanghai. However, it experienced a series of setbacks, including three consecutive cancellations from 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2025, Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand claimed the title and received $330,000 in prize money out of the $2.2 million total purse. During Thitikul's victory, issues with green damage caused by extreme heat disrupted the tournament's operation, prompting organizers to move the event to Sheshan Golf Club starting this year.
A Buick official, representing the tournament host, said, "Raising the total purse to $3.2 million, the highest in the history of women's professional golf in Asia, will mark an important milestone in the tournament's development," adding that it "reflects Buick's continued and firm commitment to the development of golf in China."
