Kim Si-woo (CJ) finished as runner-up at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson (total purse $10.3 million), the PGA Tour event sponsored by his main backer.
Kim carded a 6-under 65 with seven birdies and one bogey in the final round, which concluded Sunday in McKinney, Texas. With a 27-under 257 total, Kim finished three strokes behind Wyndham Clark (U.S.), who shaved 11 strokes off par on the day alone.
Kim, who had held a two-stroke solo lead through 54 holes and was looking to end a victory drought stretching three years and four months, was unable to fend off Clark's charge of one eagle and nine birdies for an 11-under final round, surrendering the title.
Paired with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (U.S.) in the final group, Kim made a smooth start, going 4 under through the seventh hole (par 3).
But he stumbled with a bogey at the par-4 eighth and failed to pick up a stroke at the par-5 ninth, the easiest hole on the course.
On the back nine, Kim added three more birdies to keep pace with Clark. But Clark's relentless birdie barrage proved too much, and Kim had to settle for second, three strokes back. It was his seventh top-10 finish of the season, and he collected $1,122,700 (about 1.7 billion won) in runner-up prize money.
Clark took the title at 30-under 254. Starting the day in a tie for second, two strokes back, he stormed home with an 11-under round to overtake Kim. The win was his fourth on the PGA Tour, earning him $1,854,000 (about 2.81 billion won).
Scheffler, who was chasing back-to-back titles at the event, finished alone in third at 25 under. Im Sung-jae closed at 19 under in a tie for ninth.
